We are pleased to announce the dates of the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters for the next three years:
2010: 18th to 20th June
2011: 16th to 19th June
2012: 21st to 24th June
The dates have been determined by significant changes to tournament schedules by the R&A and the EGU from 2010.
The Junior Masters, as a World Amateur Golf Ranking Tournament, has a need to ensure it does not clash with any other major event.
You will notice that, from 2011, the Junior Masters will become a four-day tournament. Having balloted all Nizels golf members in 2008, there was overwhelming support and encouragement for the move to four days, thus bringing the event into line with other major Under-18 tournaments (which are 3 days without the Junior-‘Pro’/Am).
At present 72 players take part, with 24 places being allocated to overseas players. The move to four days will allow up to 144 players to start, with up to 42 places being allocated to overseas players.
The format from 2011 will be:
Thursday: Junior-‘Pro’/Am;
Friday: 18 holes strokeplay;
Saturday: 18 holes strokeplay;
Cut: top 36 players, plus ties;
Sunday: 36 holes strokeplay.
The Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters is one of the most prestigious golf championships for elite Under-18 players in Europe. The professionalism of the format has become the template for many similar international events, which is why it is one of the best known junior golf tournaments in the world.
The Junior Masters is an R&A Major Tournament, an EGU Order of Merit event and a World Amateur Golf Ranking event.
The Junior-'Pro'/AM was introduced in 2003 to help finance the newly created Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters Charitable Trust. Commited to supporting talented junior golfers by contributing to their travel and training expenses, the success of this strategy has resulted in unprecedented levels of interest from sponsers and players.
